Vehicle Dynamics and Driving Dynamics:   

Reconstruction Level 2 

 

The Vehicle Dynamics and Driving Dynamics course is for people in different Law Enforcement Agencies as well as Assessors in the Private Sector that investigates serious traffic accidents and who wants to be able to determine speed of the vehicles involved by using applied mathematics and physics.  This course also includes a more in-depth study of vehicle controlling systems.  The successful completion of the Level 1 course is a pre-requirement for the Level 2 course.

Duration of course:  4 weeks of classroom lectures.

Practical:

  • on race track.

Each student must have:

  • a scientific calculator.

 

WEEK 1

1.  Definitions.

2.  Formulae.

3.  Revision.

4.  Velocity, perception\reaction time and skid marks.          Practical on race track.

5.  Vehicle control systems.

 

WEEK 2

1.  Uniform acceleration motion.

2.  Speed estimates from yaw marks.                                    Practical on race track.

3.  Work, force, kinetic energy.                                               Assignment 1:  Mathematical

4.  Vehicle control systems.

 

WEEK 3

1.  Falling bodies and uniform projectile motion.

2.  Trigonometry.

3.  Linear momentum equations.

4.  Vehicle control systems.                                                 Assignment 2:  Mechanical

 

WEEK 4

1.  90 degree momentum calculations.                                Assignments 3:  Mathematical

2.  Vehicle control systems.
